Have you ever looked up at the sky at nighttime? Did you look at the stars? Did you notice that the stars twinkle? The stars sometimes look like they are almost turning on and off. One moment the star may be bright, the next moment it may be dim.
In James 1:17, we read, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” James says that God is the Father of lights. God created the stars. But God does not ever appear like he is turning on and off. His blessings keep coming down.
God is always there for those that follow him. All good things come from God. He never gives us bad blessings. He is always concerned for our good.
At the time James lived, many people believed in false gods. Most of their gods were believed to be moody. Sometimes the gods would be interested in humans and sometimes they were not at all interested in humans. The people did not believe that their gods were all good. They believed that some of their gods were evil.
Our God is a God who loves us and is always interested in us. He shines bright at all times. He never turns off. He never dims.
