Some of my very first memories include playing Tank on Atari. I have played many games through my lifetime. One of my current games deals largely with character development. There are sixty or so heroes that can be obtained, leveled, strengthened and placed on a team of five. They are used for a variety of features in the games. Of themselves, they are almost equal in terms of which one is “best.” However, they gain value as they are placed in teams due to their different abilities. Each hero requires a lot of time, planning and resources to reach his potential, both as an individual and as a team.
There is something that I have noticed since I began playing the game in mid-October. Not one single hero ever complains about not being used. They do not get jealous of one another. It does not matter if I win matches or lose all of them. They are content either way. None of them beg to be leveled, teamed up, strengthened or utilized in any way. None of them honor me as the one who chooses his destiny or lack thereof. They simply do not care. Why? Because it is just a game. They are not real outside of their programming. They are not conscious of anything.
If we are not careful, we get reality confused with imagination. We go through life just accomplishing daily tasks that do not really matter. We may also forget about our Creator. We turn our lives into games that waste time instead of redeeming it (Ephesians 5:15–16).
Here are some things we need to remember as God’s people:
God seeks those who will worship and serve Him (John 4:23; Hebrews 11:6).
We represent God everywhere we go (2 Corinthians 2:15–17).
Judgment Day is coming (John 5:19–30; Hebrews 9:27–28; 10:26–27).
We will be held accountable for what we do and fail to do (2 Corinthians 5:9–10).
Heaven is as real as Hell, and vice versa (Matthew 25:31–46).
We have been sent to show others the way (Matthew 28:18–20; Mark 16:15–16).
May we always be willing to serve the Lord with gladness. We do not need to just bide our time here until we die. We should look for opportunities to honor our Lord and Savior with the short time we are blessed to receive. Let us redeem our days by living according to our Lord’s ways. I hope everyone has a blessed day!
