Fossils and the Age of Rocks

Evolutionary theory developed because of man’s desire to explain his existence through science and discovery—apart from God. Science, though, does not actually substantiate evolution since, even under controlled circumstances in laboratory experiments, assertions by evolutionists can neither be replicated nor validated.

Evolutionists claim that fossils found embedded in rock deposits (strata) at varying levels and stages of development are proof that evolution occurred. To the contrary, the pattern left by the fossils was the natural order of things after the great flood and not evidence of the evolution of life.

By definition, the study of evolution is not a science or even a scientific theory, but a philosophical theory. This means it is a philosophy, or way of thinking, and not a true science. In order for a theory (a process of thinking) to teach and to convince, evidence must be overwhelming. That is absolutely not the case with the theory of evolution

Evolutionist’s Fossil Theory

Evolutionists contend that the strata and the fossils found within it prove that evolution occurred in prehistoric times. They further state that if evolution happened in prehistoric times it must be occurring now.

It is an evolutionary theory that rocks are old because fossils can be found within them. Furthermore, each layer of rock closer to the surface of the earth’s crust has evidence of advanced forms of fossilized life. The evolutionist’s conclusion is, “Because of the irreversibility of evolution, the more primitive the fossil in development the older the rocks” (Richard Rogers, Philosophy of Evolution). In simple terms, they date the rocks by the fossils found in them, and they date the fossils by irreversibility of evolution. Here, the premise (a fossil’s advancement in development determines the age of rocks) is used to prove the theory (irreversibility of evolution). Theory is supposed to be supported by evidence, not the other way around. Appealing to rocks and fossils within them to date either one is an absurdity in circular reasoning. The rock is of a certain age because of the fossil found within it, and the fossil is of a certain age because of the age of the rock in which it was found.

Science of Hydrology

Henry M. Morris, author of textbooks on the subject of hydrology (the study of the effects of water on the earth’s crust), states, “Is evolution the only or even the best possible explanation of fossils? The answer is certainly not. The biblical revelation of early terrestrial history… leads to a much more satisfying explanation of the fossil record than does the theory of evolution.”

The fossils were definitely laid down during this present age because they show evidence of the same physical laws in existence today: death, decay and deterioration. Before the fall of man, the earth and its inhabitants lived without the fear of death or decay. It was after the fall that death entered the world and changed the natural order of life.

The Great Flood

The discussion of hydrology brings us to the great flood and the only possible and logical reason for the laying down of the fossils we find today. Billions of fossils have been preserved. Such preservation is very abnormal; it is the exception and not the rule. The global fossil record attests to a strictly atypical worldwide, cataclysmic, hydraulic event – The Genesis Flood (Scott Huse, The Collapse of Evolution).

When the waters began to recede, it was natural that their contents were deposited in the earth. The heaviest, highly developed organisms and animals were deposited first. The lightest, simpler forms of life were deposited last. Those sediments and organisms which originally occupied the lowest levels before the flood would be buried the deepest by the flood (i.e., marine organisms, fish, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, man).

This might help explain why very few upper-level creatures were discovered. They likely had intelligence and attempted to save themselves by staying afloat for a short time. Eventually they died and deteriorated, thus leaving no fossil record.

Consider the evidence. It’s a natural and logical conclusion that the laying down and fossilizing of early creatures was a direct result of the great flood, not a result of the process of evolution.
