Several people have reported seeing this commercial being shown recently on a variety of stations. It should shock us as Christians to the core of our being, and it should shock us as a nation, but the question is, “Will it?” A new FX cartoon “sitcom” entitled Little Demon is being promoted, a new series that is owned and marketed by Disney, but certainly not the Disney that Walt Disney himself created or would ever have envisioned.
[Editor’s Note: Little Demon ran on FXX from August 25, 2022 to October 20, 2022. “The series premiered in Asia, Australasia and Europe on September 21, 2022, on Disney+ (via Star) and in Latin America on February 8, 2023, on Star+. In the UK & Ireland, it was released on January 18, 2023. The series was removed from Hulu on May 26, 2023, and neither a renewal for a second season nor the show’s cancellation have been confirmed” (“Little Demon”). Disney corporation owns FXX, Disney+ and Hula. ~ Louis Rushmore]The trailer includes dark images of hell, demons, satanic imagery, as well as an explanation that the main character is the antichrist. Disney offers the following description. “Thirteen years after being impregnated by Satan, a reluctant mother, Laura, and her Antichrist daughter, Chrissy, attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware, but they are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul” (“Little Demon”). The actress who voices Laura said in an interview, “I love that we are normalizing paganism. Laura is a pagan. She’s a witch. She’s jacked…” (Weinberg).
Another online review explains that Chrissy discovers she’s the antichrist “in grisly fashion, quickly reducing a gaggle of school bullies into piles of red goo in what turns out to be the first of many spectacularly gory sequences. Chrissy doesn’t seem overly concerned by the whole triple-murder thing, shrugging it off with an easy-breezy attitude that sets the tone for the rest of ‘Little Demon’” It continues, “Most of the show leans into its hellish premise and plumbs the depths of its own depravity. It’s likely you’ve never seen a man punch a hole in his own face before or heard the words, ‘Let’s go boil some babies while their heads are still soft’” (McIndoe). If this language doesn’t give one cause for disgust and shock, it’s only because we’ve been caught up in the depravity of paganism. We could add to this a movie exalting cannibalism (“Bones and All”) set to be released in November of this year (2022).
The Gospel of Christ is fighting a battle against the forces of evil for its very existence before our own eyes. What Paul warned Timothy is occurring among us as well. “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:1-5 NKJV).
The voice actress who is applauding the normalization of paganism must be either ignorant of what it does to people individually, and of society as a whole, or is simply cruel, heartless and past feeling. Former civilizations, such as the Aztecs and the Incas, the Druids of Europe, and the people of Carthage, were purveyors of the wickedness of infant sacrifice. Israel was to remove from the land nations, including but not limited to the Canaanites, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites for the sin of idolatry and the actions it promoted. Idols such as Molech were to be destroyed so their influence would not permeate the children of Israel. Moses records, “And if the people of the land should in any way hide their eyes from the man, when he gives some of his descendants to Molech, and they do not kill him, then I will set My face against that man and against his family; and I will cut him off from his people, and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech” (Leviticus 20:4-5).
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). When we seem bent on no longer slouching but running to embrace paganism, how will the righteous God respond? Of the iniquity of ancient Rome, John wrote, “…Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities” (Revelation 18:4-5). Paul wrote of those who engaged and promoted the sins of depravity in Rome, “Who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them” (Romans 1:32). What about us today?
Do we have enough committed Christians and enough good, honest hearts who desire truth to stop a plunge into wickedness and perversion with the consequences they bring? We have sown the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind (Hosea 8:7). Can we return to holiness and truth, or will we see Christianity swallowed up by sin? “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, And will not at all acquit the wicked. The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm, And the clouds are the dust of His feet” (Nahum 1:3).
