Handling Offenses

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother” (Matthew 18:15 NKJV). Among professing Christians, that may be the most disobeyed passage in the Bible. The normal reaction to “If your brother sins against you” is “Go tell several other people what he has done.”

Incidentally, if you realize you have offended a brother, Jesus says, “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift” (Matthew 5:23-24).

Whether you are the offender or the offendee, you should meet one another on the way to make it right.
