I would venture to say, if you work a lifetime, you have run into some bossy tyrants. Most of my working life was spent in the military service. I have worked for some harsh officers and enlisted men. Such people rarely get the most out of those working for them. Sadly, some leaders cannot see beyond their own self-serving. Thankfully, and for the most part, I have worked for decent, understanding people. I am reminded of the “Unmerciful Servant” who received mercy but was harsh to a fellow servant. “…O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?” (Matthew 18:32-33). It is shameful that some in leadership positions cannot act civilly. Honesty, integrity and fairness are needed to carry out one’s responsibility. Those who have these positive character traits of one who serves to the greater degree make the finest leaders/employers. People want to do their utmost when they associate with leadership who displays the mindset of a servant.
“But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23:11-12). “Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Ephesians 6:5-7). “Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in action” (Harold Geneen). “I was only the servant of my country and had I, at any moment, failed to express her unflinching resolve to fight and conquer, I should at once have been rightly cast aside” (Winston Churchill). “The price of greatness is responsibility” (Winston Churchill). “Always render more and better service than is expected of you, no matter what your task may be” (Og Mandino).
