Are You Getting Fat?

I read a mission report from Africa recently. In some parts of Africa, it is a compliment to tell someone that he or she is getting fat. You are seen as being rich if you are fat. It means you have enough food to feed yourself and gain weight. In America, it would not be considered nice to tell someone that he or she is getting fat. A person would probably consider it an insult. As a follower of God, one should desire to get fat, but the fatness I am talking about is spiritual fatness. If a person is diligent in following God and studying His Word, he is considered becoming fat by God. If a person is busy doing the works of God, he is considered growing fat by God. Consider the following Scriptures.

  • Proverbs 11:25, “The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”
  • Proverbs 13:4, “The soul of the sluggard desireth and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.”
  • Proverbs 28:25, “He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat.”
  • Psalm 63:4-5, “Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.”
  • Psalm 92:13-14, “Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.”
  • Isaiah 55:2, “Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? And your labour for that which satisfieth not? Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.”
  • Jeremiah 31:14, “And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the Lord.”

Study your Bible. Learn all you can from it. Obey God. Do all you can to get fat. Encourage others to get fat, and if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
