At the time Jeremiah lived, the people of Judah had become very wicked. Not even one righteous individual could be found in Jerusalem. The people worshipped false gods. They sacrificed their children to false gods. The people lied to each other.
There were false prophets everywhere. These false prophets told the people whatever they wanted to hear. The priests were overbearing in their rule of the people. The priests did false worship. The priests even joined in on some of the wicked practices.
In all of this, the people were happy to have it that way (Jeremiah 5:31). The people enjoyed having evil rulers. The people loved having wicked priests. They loved being guided in wrong ways. They wanted to be told that it was alright to do whatever they wanted to do.
We have many individuals like this today. They have preachers telling them false things. They have elders and deacons guiding them to do things not commanded by God. They have leaders of the church and nation joining in doing evil things. The people say that it is just fine. Some will even say it shows that the leaders are ‘normal.’ The people love to have it so.
God condemned the people of Judah for such things. God will condemn people today for the same. God wants people to follow Him. God wants people to obey Him.
Do not be like the people of Judah. Study your Bible. Learn how to obey God, and then obey Him. Do not find joy in evil. Find joy in righteousness. Do not encourage leaders in the church or leaders of the nation to do evil. Tell them they are wrong if they practice wickedness. If any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
