Change, change, we hear a lot about it. Change in what direction? For a gentleman that is very close to seventy-six years old, with over thirty-six years of service in the US Army, I can truthfully say, “I have seen too much change in the USA.” Much is said about climate change and what we have to do to get green, et cetera and ad nauseam; yet, most just yawn at our morality changes over the years.
To boil it down: We are more involved with secular things and are asleep at the steady deterioration of our basic moral fiber that was once the true strength of our nation. Change, you bet, but we are going in the wrong direction. Time to wake up and change our course. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance” (Psalm 33:12).“Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine” (Psalm 33:18-19). “The blessings which He bestows upon those who acknowledge Him to be their God—blessings of care, protection, and deliverance in danger (Psalm 33:12-19). The psalm is thus one that is appropriate to the people of all lands and times, and will be better appreciated in proportion as people become more and more acquainted with God in the wisdom, the power and the skill which He has shown in the works of creation, and in His providential government of the world.” (Barnes Notes via e-Sword)
“Morality rests upon Law, Law is subject to the Authority of Morality: Law is the Basis of Morality, but yet Morality is the Standard of Law. Law is fixed for the moment, and Morality supposes its fixity: but Morality is a supreme and eternal Rule, which Law must recognize, Law must always attempt to conform to Morality.” (Page 331, Chapter XIX, Vol. I, The Elements of Morality, Including Polity, by William Whewell, published 1857)
OBSERVATION: It is interesting to note that in past years, God-fearing nations, to include the USA, understood that the Bible was the basis for the law of the land. Friends, our God is the Author of law! These laws are fixed! Man does not have the right to change these laws! “For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our King: he will save us” (Isaiah 33:22). “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14). “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God” (Psalm 9:17).
