Have you ever read about how birds migrate? Many birds do not live in the same place for the whole year. They will live in one place for part of the year and then fly a long distance to live in another place for the rest of the year. The birds instinctively know when it is time to fly to the other place.
God said that the Israelites were not even as smart as migrating birds. In Jeremiah 8:7, we read, “Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the Lord.”
The Israelites were supposed to know God’s laws. They were supposed to follow God’s laws. God had given them commandments to follow. He had told them on several occasions that if they followed and obeyed Him that they would be blessed. He told them that if they did not obey Him that He would bring curses upon them.
The people of Judah had seen the curses come upon the Northern Kingdom. They had experienced some of the curses upon them. However, instead of knowing that it was time to repent and come back to God, they continued in their sins. They were not even as smart as a stork or a swallow. When the bird realized that the weather was changing, it knew it was time to fly away. The Israelites should have been spiritually flying away from sin, but they refused.
Study your Bible. Know what is necessary to follow God. Help others to know what to do. Help others to be like the stork. Fly away from sin, and if any of this is hard to understand, ask an adult to help you.
