In Jeremiah 12:5, we read, “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?”
Jeremiah knew the destruction of Judah was coming. He tried many different ways, through the prophecies from God, to warn the people. However, the people refused to listen to him and God. Jeremiah, in this verse, says that the people have been wearied fighting those who were on foot. If that had wearied them, what did they think they would do against an enemy with a cavalry?
If they were having a hard time living while in peace, what did they think they would do in hard times? If they could not find peace within themselves during good times, how did they think they would do in tough times?
Many reading Wisdom’s Corner live in advanced nations. They have plenty to eat, nice homes in which to live, many modern conveniences to help in daily life and money with which to buy things. Many individuals in those nations are unhappy. They are not content even though they have all these things. They gripe about being weary of daily life. What do they think will happen when they do not have these things? If they do not like life now, what will they do when life gets much harder?
